How might you influence others for eternity?

Betty, a lady in her 70’s became enthusiastic about story telling. She lives in a small country town in Australia. She wondered how she could influence others. She bought 15 copies of “Telling the Gospel Through Story” and attempted to give them to people who she thought would benefit from the book. Four of the books weren’t read but two people have really been fired up about telling Bible stories and she continues to hope and pray that the investment of the books will lead to eternal results.

One of the ladies who is excited is involved with many ministries but is trying the story telling with the Sunday School children. She has completely changed the way she is teaching so that the bible stories are no longer taught in isolation but part of the big picture of the bible and how and where it fits in to the big picture. On Tuesday afternoon 4 of the elderly ladies’ friends pray in her home. They were discussing the church young people and one man said “ I believe we are not discipling our children but just teaching them bible stories and this is not enough they need to understand the word of God where it comes from and fits into the big story of the word of God and relating to their lives.” We all agreed. The group is learning how to do far more with the Bible stories. They have noticed an impact on the youth group already with double the number of young people turning up.

Betty learned the 1st story of creation and is using that as God gives the opportunities. A few weeks ago a lady asked her about the curtain in the temple that was torn when Jesus died. So Betty took her back to the time of Moses and the giving of the law and then went on from there right up to Hebrews and our free access to the throne of God.

These are all small  beginnings but they are excitedly looking forward to what else God might do.

How might you excite other people about story telling? How might your investment in others lives make a difference for eternity?
