Toastmaster’s speech
Jed was doing his final talk for a public speaking course*. It was near Easter. He introduced his presentation by saying, “In 2010, Easter Sunday was April fourth. In 2011 it was April twenty fourth, and next year it will be April eighth. Sometimes it’s in March. This change of date makes it hard to remember and hard to plan for without looking at a calendar. Why can’t they make it easier for the working man and standardize the date? Why does it keep changing?”
Jed then bridged into the fact that Easter is linked with the Jewish festival of Passover. “More than three thousand years ago the people of Israel were slaves in the land of Egypt. They cried out to their God to save them and to remember that he had promised to bless them. God prepared Moses and told him to go
to Pharaoh and say, ‘Let my people go.’” Jed told the Passover story. Then he told the story of a special Passover a little over two thousand years ago and the Passover Lamb who died.
Adapted from ‘Telling the Gospel Through Story’. This story actually happened sometime in the 1990’s.
