Haircuts and stories
This website has quite a few stories about hairdressers. This is because it is an ideal place to tell stories. Hairdressers are often chatty people and it is hard to say nothing since you are so close to each other and looking at each other in the mirror. A story means they can relax and not be forced to make conversation.
I went to a new hairdresser today. She was a mother with two teenage children. She was obviously intrigued by someone who lived overseas and said her profession was ‘storyteller.’
Although she sent one child to a Roman Catholic school and one to a Christian school she said, “Assume I don’t know anything.”
I said, “I’ll tell you a less familiar story that is like a soap opera.” I told her the story of Abraham, Sarah and Hagar (Genesis 16:2-10) but started with the background from Genesis 12:1-7. She listened closely to the story and then we had a relaxed chat about the people in the story and what questions we had. She was surprised that any wife would offer their husband a second wife and that Abraham would so easily agree.
I won’t have a chance to meet this lady again. Thankfully I had a website card in my bag which allowed me to say, “There are lots more video stories like I told you today on this website.” That card gives me a follow-up method. There is no reason why you can’t develop a card and link into Bible stories on this website or elsewhere. I suggest you put a QR code on it too (easily generated) so that people with a QR reader on their mobile phones can jump straight onto the website.
