Richard, a missionary to northern Thailand, was introduced to storying at one of my seminars. He liked the concept but found that he struggled to learn the stories and so didn’t use the method. Richard was different from me, so my style didn’t suit him, and I didn’t know enough at that point to train him more appropriately.
Eventually Richard went to a Simply the Story seminar, where he learned simpler methods to learn and tell stories. He also had it reiterated that he wasn’t meant to memorize the story. Once he simplified the learning process, Richard found he was free to tell stories as part of his normal life. During the course of one day he told a new story to his wife, a few stories to his English class, a story to his Thai golf partner and other stories to his children.
