A multicultural Bible study group
My first attempt at storying was in a Bible study group. We were part of a very culturally diverse church. A lady who spoke English as her second language stopped coming to our group because she did not always know what we were talking about. A lady who spoke English as her second language stopped coming to our group because she did not always know what we were talking about. We would normally read a passage from the Bible and answer questions about it. We told her we were going to do Bible storying and would she like to come back to the group. She returned and I started by telling the creation story and used a few pictures to help prompt our memories. Each person practiced telling the story during our time together. We also discussed what we liked about the story and what we had learned about God. She would come to the group each week and would have learned the story from the previous week. Also she would have watched the story on youtube and read it in the Bible and added in details that I had not included the week before. This lady started praying out loud in the group when she would not normally have said anything out loud. The change in her was amazing in terms of her participation in the Bible study group. It was great seeing her learning the Bible and also seeing her participate in the group.
