Stories in the park
The park was full of Muslim families sitting on mats on the grass and having picnics. Myself and another lady had been sent out to try and tell a story to someone. Within a minute we stopped to chat to some Indonesian ladies who were sitting on the mat. We soon sat down with them and were offered hospitality. My friend and myself ended up sitting back to back. She was able to have her first story opportunity with the lady next to her.
I asked the ladies about their lives and backgrounds. Suddenly the husband of one of the ladies came to sit down. Hoping for a story opportunity I asked him if they had any traditional stories they could tell me. Eventually they told me one from the Quran. It surprised me because it was one about Abraham but not one anything like the biblical story. They told me that Abraham was thrown into a fiery furnace after he angered local people by chopping up their idols. I listened to the end of the story and then said, “That reminds me of a similar story.”
I told the story in Daniel 1-3.
Afterwards he asked me if that story was on youtube so he could listen further.
Could you find a place where people of other cultures gather? They are usually very hospitable and happy to listen to stories. A good place to gain practice.
