The market Tea Lady
“You’re different to my other Christian friends,” said the Tea Lady.
Really, I thought, I didn’t realise she knew any other Christians. That’s great.
She continued, “When my Christian friend shares the gospel with me, she begins with her own story! How she had a problem, then how God helped her. But when you come, you tell me God’s story. You share with me what is in the Bible and help me to understand God better. I like this. This has power.”
I met the Tea Lady in my local market while handing out evangelistic magazines. She received magazines enthusiastically and I soon had the opportunity to share Bible stories with her. I was shy. I was nervous. I felt inadequate. But God was bold, powerful and clearly working in this lady’s life. During the past seven months I’ve shared from Creation to Jesus’ birth.
Today I shared the Passover story. I was a bit unsure on lots of the details but I had the main parts covered. To my surprise she seemed to already know quite a few parts of the story. She’d read the Bible portions I had left with her! No wonder she was able to help me tell the story.
Today we used the sixth question card for the first time: ‘who can you share this story with?’ She smiled at me and said, “Slowly, slowly.” “If we receive good news,” I said ,”then we can’t keep it to ourselves, we have to share it with others. I’ve been praying that God will help me share this good news with local people”.
