An opportunity on a train

Towards the end of the train ride, a guy sat down next to me (it was one of those slow trains without assigned seating) and asked me where I was from and what I was doing in Taiwan. When I told him I was a missionary intern, he didn’t understand what that meant, so I told him I was learning how to tell people stories about Jesus and the Bible. He then asked if he could hear a story. I was a bit hesitant because I wasn’t sure if I’d remember exactly how to tell the creation story, but he didn’t really leave me a choice because he pulled out his mobile phone and turned on voice recording! At that point I only had a few minutes left before we’d arrived at my stop, so in the story that I told, God made the world really, really fast. I only managed to get to the first half of the story of the fall when the train arrived, so I told him that if he wanted to know how it continued, he could find it in the Bible. I don’t know where it will go from here (he asked for my name so perhaps he’ll find me on Facebook), but from now on I think I’ll try introducing myself as a storyteller more often and see how that goes, and carry around mini-bibles so I have something to give people… Even though it didn’t go perfectly it was good to realize again just how easy it is to start sharing stories with people. And it was actually kind of fun as well…

I really like the idea of carrying around mini Bibles, and you calling yourself a storyteller…really does make people intrigued.
